A Bio by Annie Downs

Meet Jeremy Cowart.

He’s a photographer.

At his core, Jeremy loves to make art. Starting out as a graphic designer, Jeremy really only began taking pictures to build texture into his design elements. Before he knew it, he loved photography (and was getting paid to do it.). So in April of 2005, Jeremy switched over to it full time and he has never looked back. In a relatively short amount of time, Jeremy earned the respect of artists, photographers, and celebrities alike. Now hailed as one of the trailblazers in the industry, Jeremy sees taking a photograph as merely the first step in creating a piece of art.

But it’s not just about post-production. It’s about having a natural eye behind the camera. It’s about knowing the light, the location, the subject. It’s about treating each client like a friend. And that’s what Jeremy does best.

Photography has taken Jeremy to six continents. Jeremy’s skills behind the camera have allowed him to work with many clients in the entertainment industry, such as Sting, Imogen Heap, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Courtney Cox, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ryan Seacrest, just to name a few. He also traveled with Britney Spears in 2009 as the tour photographer and documented seventeen different countries with the Passion World Tour in 2008. His 3rd book “Awakening” was shot on that World Tour and is available here: www.awakeningthebook.com.

It’s fair to say that his photography career has been diverse. No doubt about that. But for him, it’s not about being famous or being known or getting awards. It’s about using any platform he has to make a difference.

He’s a social artist.

Jeremy loves other people. He digs that moment of connection, when people are brought together for a common purpose and that collision is expressed in the arts. Recently, Jeremy founded Help-Portrait, a worldwide movement of photographers using their time, equipment, and expertise to give back to those less fortunate. He has also partnered with non-profit organizations like Mocha Club, Blood:Water Mission, and Hope International to bring attention to the needs of the poor around the world through two photography books, Hope in the Dark and The Poor Will be Glad. Jeremy loves using the gifts and skills that he has received to benefit anyone within reach.

He’s a creator.

Jeremy is a crock pot of ideas, always on low simmer. He doesn’t sleep enough. His mind won’t let him. Whether it’s the next shoot, the next book, or the next out-of-the-box idea that probably is too crazy to really pull off but it would sure be fun to try, Jeremy just can’t stop. And that’s why his career keeps moving forward. Jeremy hasn’t run out of ideas yet- for photos, for art shows, for workshops, for books, for helping other people.

He’s a family man.

Living in Nashville, Tennessee, Jeremy draws a lot of inspiration from his wife, Shannon, and their two awesome kids, Adler and Eisley. They also have a dog and a cat, but they are not as inspirational.
