I’m going to start trying to do Twitter editions of “Follow Friday”. I’ve never really done it before cause no one ever explains on Twitter WHY you should follow someone. That’s always bothered me so I figured I would do my part in explaining. I’ll start with Inspiration. In the future I’ll do Haiti, Music, Writers, Help-Portrait, Informative, Photographers, etc. etc…

I also want to ask. Who inspires you on Twitter and why? Leave a comment below and I’ll be sure to follow…

Bob Goff - He’s a hero to many. Donald Miller writes about him all the time. When I’m around Bob, I just shut up and listen and soak as much as I can in. Last time I saw him, he was talking about how he wants to start writing hand letters to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on. “Imagine how that would feel to receive a letter from your Great Grandfather” he said. He also documents every memory. He says if you don’t write it down, it’s as if it didn’t exist at all.

Donald Miller – His blog and books are endless inspiration for me. I read his latest book on one sitting and cried and laughed my way through the whole thing. He’s a good friend but let’s be honest… I’m a big, starstruck fan of his.

Shaun King – He’s relentless in his passion for people and has literally had a profound impact in Haiti through social media. I’ve never seen someone change the world through Twitter like Shaun has.

Seth Godin – I know, I know, old news. I just jumped on the Seth train in the last 2 weeks and I see now why he’s such a big deal. His books will revolutionize the way you do business.

Mike Foster – Mike is an idea guy/world changer through and through. I’m constantly motivated and challenged by all the cool projects he heads up. He founded the Junky Car Club, People of the Second Chance, Plain Joe Studios, and about 18 other cool projects.

In it I talk about taking chances with my life, with my photography and moving to Nashville and Donald's newest book, "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" plays a part in it and all the coincidences/little puzzle pieces of my life as of late. Thanks for posting this and I will definitely check out the other people as well!

Sure, they aren't names that everyone knows. But they are real people with incredible talent. And they are men of faith. As a young designer and fellow Christian, this is beyond inspiring to me. And you know what? It's the same reason that drew me to you, Jeremy, in the first place.

A few months back I got a random bug to do a couple fashion shoots. So I found some models, both in Nashville and LA, grabbed my assistants and gear and we just went out and had some fun. There was no concept, no plan for either shoot. We just experimented. It was a blast. I don’t know why I don’t do this more often but I hope to start doing more of these soon. Here’s just a few random selections from these 2 shoots.

Taking Initiative

// Quotes // 0 comments

“The difference between people who exercise initiative and those who don’t is literally the difference between night and day. I’m not talking a 25-50% difference… I’m talking a 5000% difference.” – from “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”

Relevant Magazine recently asked me to shoot the guys from Hillsong United in LA. Here are just a few of the my favorite shots from the shoot. I enjoyed the variety of images we got in such a small window of time.

(Note: This is a post I wanted to make months ago but my blog wasn’t really up to par. So I saved it for now…)

Imogen Heap is one of my all-time favorite artists. She’s one of the few people that fits the word “Genius”. I think that word is way overused these days but not in Imogen’s case. Getting to witness her work in her home studio was truly like watching a master at work. She writes, records, produces, sings, mixes, you name it. It’s all her. Not many artists that I know wear all those hats these days, especially with such incredible results.

I’ve now photographed her 4 times… Nashville, 2 Days in LA and one day in London at her house. Below is a mix of some of my favorite images from these shoots. There’s tons more. I’m pretty sure I have a coffee table book’s worth. I love working with Imogen cause we’ve developed a great friendship. I feel like 2 kids exploring the world together. She’s often drawn to the same textures and light that I am. We spent a day just walking around LA together as she shopped. I had my camera along for the ride… literally. The 4th image below is in the car as we were on our way to another store. Several others were caught right outside a store or in an alleyway. No matter where we are or what kind of setup is involved, we always seem to find something interesting together.

Keep up the great work!

If anyone has the chance to see her live I HIGHLY recommend doing so, you get to hear and see the creation of her songs as she exhibits her geniusness .

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is that you can barter. I recently approached a gym close to where I live about trading services. They train me and I do some shooting for them. It worked out and we’ve had a great working relationship for a couple years now. 2 weeks ago they had some guys fresh out of college, training for the NFL. Tim Tebow (Florida Quarterback) was one of those guys that I had a chance to shoot some portraits all the guys. Below are a few samples from the shoot.

Fox recently had me shoot the Advertising for their new show “Past Life”. Unfortunately the show has already come and gone but that’s okay. I had a great time with this shoot. I shot this entirely on gray seamless. Usually seamless shoots can get pretty tiring cause you’re shooting with the same lighting on a gray background all day.  But this shoot was different. They brought many different lighting references for me to accomplish throughout the day. Some of the references were my own work which was cool. Overall, it was an incredible challenge to achieve all their different lighting setups but I love a good challenge. Not everything is represented here in terms of what we did with lighting but this still gives you an idea. I also shot all the elements for the hallway shot below and we comped it together in post.

Since we buy most of our music on iTunes these days and never really get to see CD Packaging as it’s supposed to be seen, I figured I would start showcasing CD Packages here on my blog that I’ve been a part of. Below is the package for Brandi Carlile. This is one of my favorite shoots for several reasons… Brandi is one of my favorite artists, we had a great team on this shoot, an amazing location, everyone was very laid back, the day was smooth… everything just went perfectly as planned. You can’t say that about every shoot but this was one of the few…
