New Website!

If you haven't noticed yet, my new website is live! Thanks to Jeremy Pinnix and Spencer Markowski for the amazing work. Spencer especially worked his butt off on the flash and I'm very appreciative of that.

You might be wondering why we went back to a flash site instead of css. There are many reasons for that and I'll explain at a later time. For now I have to pack as I leave tomorrow to continue the world tour! We're off to Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and South Africa. Be looking for more video blogs from our trip over the next 2 weeks. Until then...

Oh yeah. I have much more work to add to the site.. some new and some old. I figured this will do for now. Check back soon for updates.

Too bad I don't have that 30 inch to enjoy it properly. :)

Looks really nice man.

July 28, 2008 Jeremy Ricketts said...

Love the design. Even looks good on a 30" monitor at full screen.

Show your designers some love and link to them in this post, eh? Just a thought.

July 28, 2008 Jeff Ruth said...

Well done. Been waiting to see the new site. Glad you got it up before you took off for your tour. Be safe... can't wait to see new pics get posted.

I was with you until you said, "You might be wondering why we went back to a flash site instead of css..."

Yeah...no. I wasn't wondering. I didn't even know.

In nerdy-speak... does that mean it's prettier now? ;o)

What do I know. I just take pictures!

Coffee soon...Deb

I was looking forward to your new site, and wasn't disappointed! Your new site looks great, and as always love your images. I do look forward to hearing your reasons for moving to flash instead of css. Your previous looked and worked great, but so does your new flash version.

I have noticed one aspect of the site that confused me a bit. When I used the up/down arrow on my keyboard to move between sections, the blue line that runs through the section label (in the list of sections on the left) doesn't change to reflect the current section. If the blue line would change as the up/down arrow is hit that may make it clearer. Hope that helps.

Great job, and I look forward to updates from your world tour!

Congrats on the new site, it's fantastic! The new images you've added are amazing.

July 29, 2008 Nick said...

I'm a huge fan of your work. No doubt the new design continues to showcase what is most important.

However I have to say I was disappointed to see this transition back to flash. The old site was much faster and easier to use in my opinion. I just wish it did not make me dizzy trying to look at some photos.

July 29, 2008 Katie Torres said...

The new site looks great. Congratulations!

July 29, 2008 David Burke said...

Fantastic! The new design really gives your images the "pop" they deserve. IMHO it is hard to achieve a great showcase of images without using flash. As much as I like to avoid Flash as well, this is very well done.

Congrats!

Jeremy - the new website looks great. Have fun travelling - can't wait to see more work!

July 30, 2008 Grant said...

Great update to the site - love the way it displays the photographs in full-screen mode. Thanks for sharing your work!

Jeremy,
really great site, looking forward to hangin out soon

July 30, 2008 miles said...

It's a slick site but, like Nick, I was disappointed to see the site uses Flash, especially that it's all Flash. That makes bookmarking a particular section impossible. I would have thought would be important to you as potential clients might wish to share a section or image that's relevant to them with their colleagues. But then again I know nothing about the machinations of your business and assume your designer took these things into account.

Interface-wise the only thing that bugged me was when you wanted to move left in a series of images; moving the mouse to the left of the screen, towards the blue arrow, kept bring up the main menu. I realised after some experimentation that I don't have to move the mouse all the way over to the arrow to click to move left, but it's the kind of thing that's going to bug a lot of people (part of my job is website user testing groups and this kind of thing really frustrates). I also realise you can use the keyboard to navigate but, in my experience, most people aren't going to notice that feature or will prefer to use the mouse anyway.

The full screen mode is a nice feature.

July 31, 2008 Emilia said...

I love the pictures, as always, but am dissapointed in the website layout. I liked the old one much much better.. it's a good job done with it, I just don't like it. It takes alot longer to load, etc etc.

July 31, 2008 anon said...

The use of the flash is really cool. But it is harder to use, and possibly shows too many images instead of your best? Regardless, the newer photos look fantastic!

July 31, 2008 jeremy said...

Thanks for all the comments guys. Again I will post very soon on why we went back to flash. I realize it's a longer load. Hopefully that will be better soon as I'm going to re-export all the images at a much lower quality which should help significantly. Anon, this site has WAY fewer images than my last site.. maybe a 10th of what it had. So not sure what you're referring to if you're comparing the 2. But thanks for all the feedback guys! I really appreciate it..

Oh we also realize the site still has bugs and we will be working on them. Spencer (the guy doing the flash) and I both left town for 2 weeks so we just had to get the thing live before we left. We'll be doing further tweaking for sure.

August 01, 2008 Simon McConico said...

Fantastic site. The full screen option is pretty killer. Great work.

August 01, 2008 Josh Payne said...

The New site looks awesome- I know that was probably a lot of time and headaches put into it.

One thing though- I tried to view the site at work, ( on a comp which does not have flash) and nothing happened, the screen went black for a second and went back to white. I didn't know if somehow you wanted to prompt Non-flash users to a site to download the newest available version of flash so that they can actually view your site, and so they know it is not an error with your site itself. just a thought.

But...when I checked it at home, it looked sweet. You and Dan & whoever else be safe- as always i'll be prayin for you guys.
